Disqualification Policy

The following policy will apply to Special Olympics Northern California (SONorCal) and is for individual and team sports where infractions may result in disqualification:

  • It will be the coach’s responsibility to be aware of disqualifications at all times. Event officials will be signaled of infractions by course/event judges. Event officials will not announce the disqualification to the general audience.
  • Disqualified athletes will be given notice of rule infraction upon completion of the event.
  • A Venue Director will be available to hear all questions from a registered, certified coach concerning disqualified athletes.
  • Awards will be presented upon completion of the event which will include:
    • Running of the event;
    • Notice of disqualification if necessary;
    • Protest of disqualification if brought forth by a registered, certified coach; and
    • Final decision of Venue Director
  • Decision of Venue Director will be final and binding.
  • An athlete/team that is disqualified will be given a participation ribbon.
    *An athlete/team that is disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct will not receive a participation or placement ribbon.
  • As with other protests, if not made prior to the awards presentation, a disqualification protest must be made within 30 minutes of the awards presentation for the division/event in question.
