Be Part of Our Healthy Team

There are many ways to get involved and support our Health & Wellness movement! If you are interested in volunteering, fill out this brief Special Olympics Health & Wellness Volunteer Interest form for upcoming events!

Ways to Get Involved

Clinical Directors

Clinical Directors are doctors, clinicians or other experts in their respective healthcare fields who volunteer their time to support the health and well-being of Special Olympics athletes. We rely on Clinical Directors to lead Healthy Athletes®screenings and help change the landscape of care for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Athlete Health Messengers

Special Olympics athletes are trained as Health Messengers to encourage healthy behaviors for their fellow athletes and advocate for inclusive healthcare outside of the organization. Visit our Athlete Leadership Program page to get involved and learn more.

Health Professional Volunteers

Join our movement for inclusive health! Health Professionals provide guidance and hands-on assessments for Special Olympics athletes in their respective areas of expertise. Gain real-world experience interacting with the intellectual disabilities community and help us break down healthcare barriers. Volunteer at a Healthy Athletes event or become part of our referral network!

Student Volunteers

We are proud to partner with local medical programs including at Stanford University, Touro University, University of the Pacific and others. Students gain real-world experience and learn directly from athletes about the best ways to treat people with intellectual disabilities. Through these hands-on interactions, athletes improve their health and students develop a newfound knowledge that they can use to create a brighter future of inclusive health.

Fitness Professional Volunteers
Fitness professionals work with us to train, educate and motivate the Special Olympics community with a goal of adopting a healthy lifestyle. Whether it be through individual sessions, seasons or lending their knowledge, Fitness Professionals are key to helping Special Olympics athletes succeed on the field and lead healthy, fulfilled lives.
Health Management Team (HMT)
Health Management Team (HMT) members are volunteers who have experience with Special Olympics events and can help organize our Health & Wellness events. The HMT works closely with staff at events, but may also supervise volunteers and/or particular aspects of an event. HMT Members typically agree to help support from two to four events during the course of a year. For more information, email
